The Legacy
A Heritage of
Precision & Purpose
Founded in Paris in 1847 by Louis-François Cartier, the Maison quickly became the jeweller of choice for European royalty. King Edward VII famously called Cartier 'the jeweller of kings and the king of jewellers' — a title the house has honoured for nearly two centuries.
Cartier's watchmaking legacy is equally illustrious. In 1904, Louis Cartier created the Santos for his friend, the aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont — widely considered the first modern wristwatch. The Tank, inspired by the Renault tanks of World War I, followed in 1917 and remains one of the most iconic watch designs ever conceived.
At Made For Time, we celebrate Cartier's unique position at the intersection of jewellery and horology. Every pre-owned Cartier in our collection is independently authenticated, meticulously inspected, and presented with full provenance documentation.
Parisian Elegance
Every Cartier design carries the DNA of Rue de la Paix — a distinctive blend of geometric purity, refined proportions and unmistakable French sophistication.
Pioneering Wristwatches
From the Santos (1904) and Tank (1917) to the Ballon Bleu and Panthère, Cartier has shaped the very idea of what a wristwatch can be — as jewellery, as design, as icon.
Manufacture Excellence
Cartier's in-house movements, developed at their Swiss manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds, combine technical precision with the artistic finishing the Maison is celebrated for.
